It’s a synthetic absorbable surgical suture composed of polydioxanone. PDO sutures are used to perform cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery). It’s one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body. Your skin fully absorbs it within 4 to 6 months & won’t leave you with any scar tissue. What Exactly Are PDO Threads aka Polydioxanone Threads?
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The treatment plan is simple:
- We insert the preloaded needles into the skin on the targeted areas.
- The PDO suture stays beneath the skin as soon as the needle is removed.
- You’re done! In and out in under an hour with no downtime!
How Does It Work?
By using the skin’s self-repair mechanism, we purposely cause micro ‘injuries’ in the targeted area that will then stimulate new collagen synthesis. It’s the same principle used behind our other procedures like Microneedling, Derma Pen, Chemical Peels, and Fractional Laser. With the insertion of the PDO Thread, the skin reacts to the thread and begins to gently repair itself and create new collagen! Visible results can take up to 2 months but a 30% improvement can be seen immediately.
Purely injections! The PDO Threads are needles that are pre-loaded with a thread. Simply insert the whole needle at subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin, & pull the needle out. The PDO thread remains under the skin.
While botulinum toxins (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) and injectable fillers are most effective on the upper and middle third of the face, it is challenging to treat the jawline and neck. This is where PDO Threads comes in! PDO threads can be inserted anywhere on the body but work most effectively on the mid and lower third of the face and the NECK. Also they are perfect for brow lift, repair saggy skin on arms, knees, inner thighs, abdomen, and BUTT LIFT.
Does It Hurt?
While most patients report mild pain and discomfort associated with the procedure, we do apply a layer of lidocaine cream during preparation to minimize discomfort. Also, we offer PRO-NOX, the latest technology for sedation. The PRO-NOX is a Patient-controlled Inhaled Analgesia for in-office use and takes effect in seconds, offering immediate relief of pain and anxiety.
How Can I Prepare?
Like with any injectable treatment, you run the risk of temporary bruising and swelling. In order to prevent bruising, eliminate blood thinners like aspirin, NSAIDs, red wine/alcohol, Vitamin E, fish oil, green tea, and herbal supplements for a few days before your treatment.
